Its a simple one pot meal. It tastes best with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/2009\/07\/rice-and-toordal-upma-with-adayar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sambar<\/a>.I add equal amount of rice and green gram dal ( Pacha Payaru\/Paasi pauaru in Tamil) in this upma. So its very filling and rich in protein. We wanted little mushy. So I added more water.But if u add the quantity of water given below, u&#8217;ll get the rice grains separate and fluffy. Please use the water according to your choice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/green252520gram252520upma_thumb25255B225255D.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"green gram upma\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/green252520gram252520upma_thumb25255B225255D.jpg?resize=520%2C458&#038;ssl=1\" class=\"wp-image-4839\" height=\"458\" style=\"border-bottom-color: initial; border-bottom-style: initial; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-color: initial; border-left-style: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-color: initial; border-right-style: initial; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-color: initial; border-top-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;\" width=\"520\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"inpostAd1PlaceHolder\">\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1 cup &#8211; 200ml<\/strong><\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellpadding=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" style=\"width: 400px;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"400\">\n<ul>\n<li>Steamed rice or Raw rice &#8211; 1\/2 cup<\/li>\n<li>Green gram \/ Pacha payaru &#8211; 1\/2 cup<\/li>\n<li> Water &#8211; 1- 1.25 cups<\/li>\n<li>Salt &#8211; As needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To temper<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cooking oil &#8211; 1 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Mustard seeds &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Urad dal &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Channa dal &#8211; 1\/2tsp<\/li>\n<li>Green chilly &#8211; 2 no (slit into two)<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves &#8211; A few<\/li>\n<li>Ginger- 1 inch (cut into pieces)<\/li>\n<li>Hing \/ Asafetida &#8211; 3-4 generous pinches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>\n<b>METHOD<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat a kadai and dry roast the rice till it slightly puffs up.<\/li>\n<li>In the same kadai add a tsp of oil and roast the green gram until nice aroma arises.It may take 5-8 mins.<\/li>\n<li>Now heat 1 tbsp of oil and temper the items given above in the same order.<\/li>\n<li>Then add the roasted rice and dal. Add the required water and salt .Transfer everything into a pressure cooker.<\/li>\n<li>Add a drop of oil and a pinch of hing .Pressure cook for one whistle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delicious upma is ready to serve.
