Saravana bhavan is one of the hotels in which I am longing to have my breakfast and dinner and very recently I had a chance to visit it.&nbsp;As I have tasted this sambar, I wanted to try in my kitchen because this recipe is totally new from my usual<b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/2012\/04\/hotel-idly-sambhar-tiffin-sambhar.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">hotel sambar<\/span><\/a> <\/b>recipe. No need to make additional powder for sambar. Our usual sambar powder is enough. I have tried the original recipe many times and I felt its less tangy because of Bangalore tomato. So I changed the recipe according to our taste buds. METHOD<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><br \/><\/strong>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">\n<table align=\"center\" bgcolor=\"#efefef\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\nPressure cook all the ingredients given under \u201cpressure cook\u201d&nbsp; till mushy. Remove &amp; mix well.( Cook drumstick seperately in a bow. and place inside the cooker without adding water. Use drumstick for best tasting sambar).&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Saravana Bhavan sambar\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/saravana-bhavan-sambar-tile1.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\" title=\"Saravana Bhavan sambar\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\nGrind all the ingredients adding little water to make a smooth paste.( given under \u201cto grind\u201d) <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Saravana Bhavan sambar\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chitrasfoodbook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/saravana-bhavan-sambar-tile2.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\" title=\"Saravana Bhavan sambar\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\nAdd this ground paste and the tamarind extract ( do not add tamarind extract if you are using tangy tomatoes), salt&nbsp; to the cooked dal mixture and allow it to boil well till the raw smell emanates. It will thicken. Add tomato pieces and saute until mushy. Add this to the boiling sambar. Boil for some more time. Add sugar or jaggery while boiling. Finally temper the ingredients given under \u201cTo temper\u201d and add to sambar. Garnish with coriander leaves and close it with a lid. Serve after 30 minutes. As I used Bangalore tomatoes, I felt its bland. So I added little tamarind extract. If you use Tamil nadu tomato( Naatu thakkali) , tamarind may not be necessary. Make sure the sambar should be mild in tanginess. <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\nTempering at the end gives a nice flavor. If you want, you can do this step while sauteing onions.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">\nAdding sambar onion gives&nbsp; a nice taste.
